Abstract: As the pact of persistent organic pollutants (POPs) come into force, twelve of the commonly used POPs will be reduced or eliminated practically in the whole world. This paper discusses the progress in study of the characteristics of POPs, the criteria for identifying them, the commonly used kinds of them, the harmful of them, and how to deal with them. Based on the practical polluting condition and our national situation, suggestions are brought forward.
