Based on the morphological observations and the analysises of Biolog-GN and G+C mol% on the 16S rRNA gene, the strain was identified as Methylomonas capsulatus. The detection of the methane oxidation rate indicates that the strain ZD4 can reduce the methane concentration by 85%, and therefore, it is feasible to control the coal mine gas using ZD4's methane oxidation capacity.
