Abstract：Nickel nanopwders were synthesized using ethylene glycol as the solvent. Based on X-ray diffraction data, the resulting powders were identified as pure crystalline nickel with an average crystal size of 20 nm. The reaction stages can be judged from the changes of solution color. The mean diameter of the Ni powders is close related to the concentration of reactants and the nucleating agent. Ethylene glycol was found to be effective in keeping the nanopowders from agglomeration.
