Abstract:The Cellular Automata (CA) can be used to simulate and predict the urban spatial change in urban planning. This paper reviews the urban CA, its construction, and applications in land use, traffic, diseases and disaster controls, analyzes the characteristics of the applications of the urban CA, and the trend of the urban CA in the future. It is shown that CA has good application prospects in China. The number of researches in recent twelve years is increasing though with some fluctuations. With the development of the urban CA model, the applications will gradually increase in the filed of diseases and disaster. The multi-agent would make up the unmovability characteristic of the urban CA for its applications in land use and traffic control.
