Abstract: This paper discusses the future direction and strategic path of smart city and their relation with the development of ITS (intelligent transportation system) by considering the current stage and future bottlenecks of smart city technology as well as traffic problems and challenges faced by megacities in China. The article further elaborates the core function and advantage of edge computing server as the basic cell of the entire smart city information infrastructure. Finally, the paper proposes some future applications of edge computing server in the context of smart city and transportation.
