Separation and Identification of a Methane-oxidizing Bacteria and a Preliminary Study on Its Methane Oxidation Capacity

A bacterium (strain ZD4) was separated from soil treated with methane, which can grow with methane as the sole carbon source. Based on the morphological observations and the analysises of Biolog-GN and G+C mol% on the 16S rRNA gene, the strain was identified as Methylomonas capsulatus. The detection of the methane oxidation rate indicates that the strain ZD4 can reduce the methane concentration by 85%, and therefore, it is feasible to control the coal mine gas using ZD4's methane oxidation capacity.

Based on the characteristics of high concentration organic wastewater produced from a soy protein process, a few yeasts and the optimal culture conditions were selected to produce Single Cell Protein (SCP) by soy protein wastewater fermentation. The results of Erlenmeyer flask indicated that Candida tropicalis, Candida utilis, Candida lipolytica, Geotrichum candidum link and Endomycopsis fiburiger could be used and their optimal culture conditions were, respectively, as follows: Potato Dextrose Agar (PDA) medium, initial pH 6.5, 25℃ and 180 runs per minute (r/min) for Geotrichum candidum link; MacConkey medium, initial pH 6, 25℃ and 180 r/min for Candida utilis; PDA, initial pH 5.5, 25℃ and 210 r/min for Candida tropicalis; PDA, initial pH 5.5, 25℃, 180 r/min for Candida lipolytica; PDA, initial pH 6, 25℃ and 180 r/min for Endomycopsis fiburiger.

Municipal Wastewater Treatment by a Biological Aerated Filter in Pilot-scale

Based on the performance of a pilot-scale system treating municipal wastewater, the influences of surface loading rate, temperature and the ratio of air to water on a Biological Aerated Filter (BAF) are investigated in this paper. The results show that the temperature of wastewater should keep above 15℃. When the surface loading rate reaches as high as 3.0 m3/(m2·h) with the temperature of 20℃, the effluence concentration of SS, COD and NH4+-N could still keep below 15 mg/L, 60 mg/L and 18 mg/L, respectively. It is reasonable to adopt a ratio of air to water of 3.0 when the BAF is used to treat municipal wastewater.

Antenna Array Design for the Ground-based Experimental System for Interferometric Microwave Radiometer Imager

The ground-based experimental system for the interferometric passive microwave imager is designed to test its two-dimensional part correlation, imaging mechanism and algorithm. High spatial resolution is obtained by synthesis aperture technique. One measurement is required for one spatial frequency because the object locates in the far field of antennas of the experimental system. Moreover, the antenna array is revolving during the measurement. Therefore, a sparse aperture design is desirable for the antenna array in order to reduce cost and complexity of the whole system. This paper presents a sparse aperture design for the antenna array in the ground-based experimental system. The design objective is to use as few as possible antenna elements to obtain a similar covering of the spatial frequency domain. The numerical simulation results indicate that the engineering design requirements can be satisfied. Zero redundancy is realized for an array with 6 elements. The redundancy of an array with 7 elements is 9.1%. Moreover, sampling points of the designed antenna array cover completely the spatial frequency domain. Therefore, reliable visibility functions can be provided for brightness temperature image reversion.

New Features of Assortativity Characteristic Transition in Large Harmonious Unifying Networks Model

Based on the harmonious unifying hybrid model, the large harmonious unifying network model (LUHNM) is further developed. In this model, two more hybrid ratios, which are gr and fd, are defined besides the previous total hybrid ratio dr. They are introduced as the deterministic hybrid ratio and the random hybrid ratio, respectively. The ratio dr controls the number of deterministic attachment and random attachment. The networks grow through adjusting the three hybrid ratios. In this paper, several new features of assortativity characteristic transition are revealed. The famous un-weighted BA model, ER model and HUHPM model can deduced by asigning different values of the three hybrid ratios. It is found that assortativity coefficient rc can vary in a large range of (-1, 1), and there exists a threshold value nearby at fd=0.9/1 as dr=1/1, where rc can have a transition from negative to positive values. Also rc can be rapidly increased to a large value from near zero at fd~1/1 as dr→1/0. In addition, the multi-peak phenomena of rc appear as fd→1/1. These results can provide a better understanding about the evolution characteristics and the difference in growing complex networks between social networks and technological and biological networks.

A Numerical Algorithm for Hopf Bifurcation

The numerical results are not consistent with the theoretical ones when solving the Hopf bifurcation problems of planar autonomous system by means of Runger-Kutta method on certain conditions. In this paper, several examples of this problem are discussed. Finally, a new method is proposed to solve this problem and the validity of the method is demonstrated.

Analysis of Wenzhou Abnormal Heavy Rain Associated with 9909 Tropic Cyclone

By use of T106 numerical products, satellite data and observations, this paper analyzes Wenzhou abnormal heavy rain associated with 9909 tropic cyclone. The results show that the autumn tropic cyclone landing at the east of Guandong province is often accompanied with an inverted trough extending to the middle-south Zhejiang coast. At the special place, one may see Mesoscale Convective Complex (MCC), which is responsible for the abnormal heavy rain.

Optimal Design of 1.5 Mm3 Crude Oil Tank

Three design schemes and one real tank with a same volume but different thickness and height at various parts are compared. The 1.5 Mm3 crude oil tank is analyzed with the nonlinear finite element software ABAQUS. The stress distribution in the whole tank is calculated. An optimized scheme is chosen according to the calculation results. The stress distribution is evaluated based on the design standard of pressure vessels. The calculation shows that the tank is safe with stored crude oil. Except the upper and down parts, the stress on the wall is uniformly distributed at a high level. The highest stress is found at the down second part of the wall. The stress on the bottom plate is low. But the stress at the welding inner corner between wall and bottom plate is higher than the permitted stress level. When the stress is properly classified, the standard requirements can be met.

Reverse Structures in Erlian Basin and Their Relations with Hydrocarbon

The tensional stress field was changed into a compressive stress field in the late depositional stage of Teng-2 formation in Erlian basin, which created stress conditions for formation of reverse structures. There are different reverse structures with different characteristis because of difference of geological background and force-accumulating mechanism in differential sags or regions. In Erlian basin, if reverse structure was formed before the middle depositional stage of Saihan formation, which inverted degree would be very intense; if the reverse structure was formed in a condition that the main source sequence-Aershan formation was involved in deformation, there would be much migration and accumulation of hydrocarbon.

Xenorhabdus are Gram-negative bacteria that live in symbiosis with Steinernema nematodes. During recent decades, more and more researches are focused on the molecular biology of these bacteria. This paper reviews the advances in some functional genes of Xenorhabdus, including outer member protein genes, mobility protein genes, symbiosis-associated genes, insecticidal toxin protein genes, hemolysin genes, antibiotics-related genes, and some patented genes.

Comprehensive Risk Assessment Model for Complicated Product Innovation and Its Application

Complicated product innovation is an important part of the strategy in building a country into one of innovative type and plays a decisive role in enhancing the national competitive power. Due to the high risk nature, the innovation risk of complicated products must be assessed comprehensively. But most existing methods were found not very satisfactory in that respect. In this paper, key risk factors of complicated product innovation are analyzed and a comprehensive risk assessment model based on Fuzzy Analytic Hierarchy Process (Fuzzy AHP) is put forward. The model is well in accord with the trend of the current innovation risk assessment development, and is an improvement of traditional risk assessment methods in integrating various assessment methods.

Conflict Management Decision Support System for Concurrent Engineering

In concurrent engineering, it is difficult to avoid the conflict. This paper presents a conflict management decision support system to eliminate the conflict and increase the product development efficiency using cybernetics and fuzzy theory. The operation mechanism of its four subsystems, that is, the forward feed control system, the monitoring system, the deductive decision-making system and the fuzzy decision-making system, is analyzed. The support system can avoid, identify and handle the conflict effectively, which help to reduce the resource collision, especially, the intellectual resource collision.

Hybrid Intelligent System R-FC-DENN and Its Implementation

The hybrid intelligent system has become an important research direction of artificial intelligence. Based on the cognitive psychology and aggregative model theory, a new hybrid intelligent system R-FC-DENN is proposed based on rough set, clustering theory, fuzzy logic, genetic algorithm and artificial neural network. By means of clustering and simplifying the original dataset, the system can enhance training efficiency and robustness. With the hybrid intelligent system R-FC-DENN as an example, a toolbox RFCDENN-Tool is developed based on Rosetta and Matlab 6.5, which may provide a basis for related researches.
