Air quality is one of essential conditions for essential development for modern cities and is an important factor in the resident environment. The atmospheric environment is a multi-scale fluid flow. This paper discusses modern numerical methods for predicting atmospheric environment in a city and resident area. Particular emphases are put on the peculiar feature of this complex environmental multi-scale flow and the problems that need to be tackled, for instance, the treatment of the complicated canopy catalog and the boundary conditions. The application of the numerical method is illustrated by two examples, a typical city and a model resident area. The influence of canopy catalog on the city atmospheric environment is demonstrated and the relationship between wind speed and air quality in the resident area is obtained.

The mechanism of wind-blown sand movement serves a basis in understanding wind erosion, dust weather (including dust storm) and blown sand disaster, and also a basis in effectively preventing the sand related disasters. It is closely related to many scientific problems such as the multi-scale problem, the coupling of multi fields, randomness, non-linearity, the effect of scale as well as complex system. These problems are also among hotspots in scientific frontline. This paper briefly reviews the research work on mechanism of wind-blown sand movement, and focuses on recent studies of the research group of environmental mechanics on wind blown sand movement in Lanzhou University. They include the basic laws governing the particle charge and electric field in the blown sand flux, the effects of sand electrification on telecommunication, theoretical simulation of the evolution process of windblown sand flux, theoretical analysis on the effective size of blown sand fixing structures, and the main features of Aeolian sand ripples.

This paper simply introduced the basic characteristics of soil erosion on hillslopes, and summarized the three basic dynamics processes of soil erosion, including the process of runoff generation caused by rainfall, the process of sediment yield on hillslope by overland flow, and the process of runoff concentration and sediment transport on watersheds. Furthermore, the basic issues and key academic problems related to the three basic dynamics processes are analyzed summarily, and also the future trends of soil erosion dynamics are briefly discussed.

With respect to the current state of river environment protection and disaster defense in China, this paper presents a brief review of research on three major themes, i.e., dam-break flooding, flash flooding, and phytoplankton bloom in reservoirs due to large dams. The identified issues highlight the need for concerted and substantially extended investigations, which should provide the scientific base for more effective fluvial flood defense and environmental rehabilitation.

The main anthocyanin of Blackrice pigments was analysed by HPLC, and the method of detection of red wine adulteration with Blackrice pigments was established. HPLC analysis: Chromatographic condition was RP-C18 column, pH 1.6 in mobilephases, binary solvent delivery gradient elution, and UV-Vis detection was used at 518 nm. The result showed the main anthocyanin of Blackrice pigments was Cyanindin-3-glucoside. An enhanced peak from additional Cyanindin-3-glucoside was fond in red wine adulteration with Blackrice pigments, due to Cyanindin-3-glucoside from Blackrice pigments, and wine adulteration with Blackrice pigment could be detected using this peak. This detecting method is simple, accurate, illustrative, and with high practicability.

The stress and strain distribution of sealing rubber material in oil-well bushing is calculated on famous nonlinear finite element software. The influences of load, friction coefficient, seal gap, seal height are calculated. The result shows that load, seal gap and seal height have influence on the maximum stress while friction coefficient has little influence on it. Based on these calculation results, the design of rubble seal equipment can be optimized.

Virtual tourism is a digital file of tourist landscape for three-dimensional display in Internet、multimedia、touch-screen and the other carriers. We can watch the landscape from different angles in fixed or self-selected lines. The paper discusses the development and significance of the virtual tourism, generalizes and analyses its research contents and technological key points. At the end, several suggestions are put forward for future researches.

The system dynamics (SD) and its modeling methods are used in a simulation for issues concerning education investment, economic growth and employment. It is shown that the education investment should be increased and the level of national education should be enhanced In that way, the great pressure of population can be transformed into a great advantage in human resources. Meanwhile, the pressure on employment related with population and other factors should be considered. A reasonable proportion for education investment relative to the regular investment should be maintained for a proper economic growth, which may serve as a guideline for the decision-making of the government.
