The mass media is the main front of the science popularization. In recent years, China's science popularization has shown a good trend of development. But at the same time, some problems still exist, such as the lack of professionalism in the science popularization, the difficulty in balancing the scientific correctness and the readability, and the insufficiency of dissemination of scientific methods and scientific spirit. The main reasons are as follows:the insufficient support to the science popularization of mass media from the whole society; the difficulty in transforming the discourse system of mass media and the scientific discourse system; the weak scientific foundation and social responsibility of some mass media practitioners. In order to improve the science popularization ability of mass media, it is suggested to increase the support for media science popularization through multiple channels, strengthen the cultivation and the training of media science personnel, and improve the quality of media science popularization through the whole process.

A text mining is carried out to analyze 5955 SBIR/STTR projects funded by the U.S. Navy since 2011, and the project layout is analyzed from the perspective of the overall funding trend, the small business awardees, the major research fields and the emerging hotspots. It is found that the U.S. Navy invests 200~400 million dollars annually in the SBIR/STTR program with a wide range of funding. The small business awardees are mainly located in coastal states clustered with marine scientific research institutes. The funding fields mainly focus on improving the stability and the concealment of the systems and the components, enhancing the perception and cognitive ability of complex environments, increasing the security and reliability of the energy supply, and training the personnel for the combat capability. Recent research hotspots funded by the U.S. Navy are the additive manufacturing and the machine learning.

The global climate change comes with the increased frequency of extreme weathers and natural disasters. It is urgent to improve the building resilience and to develop the building resilience evaluation systems. The existing building resilience evaluation systems and evaluation methodologies are reviewed in this paper, as well as the enlightenment to China's establishment of future building resilience evaluation system. The building of the physical characteristics is the internal foundation to improve the building resilience. The socio-economic capacity is the external assistance to improve the building resilience. National or government policies and regulations are a strong guarantee for improving the building resilience. There is not an official building resilience evaluation system in China yet, therefore, recommendations are proposed as follows. Multiple disaster risks for building in different regions should be identified. The resilience evaluation methodologies should be studied. Codes for building resilience should be introduced. The social safety resilience should be improved. The digital network of "Internet + Building" should be constructed.

The climate disaster brought by the global warming seriously threatens the development of cities and society in the world. It is a new urban development task for cities to improve their ability to cope with the climate change through the construction of resilient cities. This paper first reviews the origin and the classification of the resilience concept, then uses the city space software to analyze the data of the resilience research and development at home and abroad, the relevant strategies and practices of the resilience city system construction in typical countries against climate disaster, and the key scientific and technological issues and relevant strategic paths of the resilience city construction and development. Some strategies and suggestions are proposed for the research and development of resilient cities in China. This study provides a theoretical support for the effective prevention and control of natural disasters in cities and for the reduction of disaster losses, which is of great significance to ensure the sustainable development of China's economy and society.

In recent years, with the increasing frequency of the extreme climate events, one sees the increasing global temperature rise and climate change, to seriously threaten human health and economic and social development. As the main component of the urban system, the community plays a very important role in improving the performance of the urban resilience. From the perspective of the special features and the expression mechanism of the resilience concept in the community dimension, this paper reviews the relevant policies and methods of the resilience evaluation, and the practice of the community resilience construction, at home and abroad, focusing on the key scientific issues, the strategic paths and the policy measures in terms of the resilience of the community climate disasters, and puts forward some suggestions for the construction of resilient communities in China.

The climate change, the building and the civil engineering are interconnected fields. This paper considers some of the meteorological parameters in the current Chinese building and civil engineering design standards, and compares them with the estimated data of several related typical climate change risks. It is concluded that in order to better cope with future climate changes, some of the parameters need to be adjusted accordingly. Based on this consideration, the framework recommendations for updating the historical data and the expansion of the dimension of the future climate change related with these parameters are put forward. At the same time, it is proposed to establish special estimates of meteorological parameters in the design to deal with future climate change risks.

Based on the meteorological disaster data of the "Belt and Road" regions from 1980 to 2019, the spatial-temporal characteristics of these regions are analyzed. The results of the analysis are as follows. First, the numbers of meteorological disasters, economic losses and victims in the "Belt and Road" regions from 1980 to 2019 all see an overall upward trend, and reach 54%, 44% and 80% of the global total numbers. Second, South Asia and Southeast Asia are the most seriously affected regions, of which Southeast Asia accounts for 36% of the total number of meteorological disasters, and South Asia accounts for 29%; while in terms of economic losses, South Asia accounts for 40%, Southeast Asia accounts for 39%; in terms of victims, South Asia accounts for 48%, and Southeast Asia accounts for 37%. Therefore, for the "Belt and Road" regions of South Asia and Southeast Asia, one needs to focus on the disaster prevention and mitigation. Third, in the 21st century, the number of meteorological disasters in the 2010s has increased by 2.8 times from that of the 2000s, while the number of deaths has decreased by 76%.

The rain and flood disasters caused by the global warming have seriously affected the development of cities and society. It is an important issue of the urban development, through the spatial planning and the infrastructure constructions, to comprehensively improve the city's resistance to rain and flood disasters. This paper reviews the origination and the development of the concept of the urban resilience, where the rain flood resilience is regarded as the key point of the construction of a resilient city. Based on the existing design theory and practice of the water system at home and abroad, it is proposed that the construction of the resilient city with rainwater and flood toughness should put the infrastructure of the municipal water supply and drainage in consideration in the existing urban pattern while planning the spatial layout of the water washing. The actual cases of the urban and rural spatial pattern, the landscape system and the infrastructure in the Netherlands are specially analyzed, and some suggestions are made for the construction of the rain and flood resilience city.

Fatty acids are widely distributed in various geological carriers, and can be taken as records of the living environment of the maternal sources. However, the specific sources and the paleoclimatic significance of the distribution characteristics of the fatty acids are still not completely clear, therefore, only a limited application of fatty acids is made in the paleoclimatic reconstruction. By analyzing the n-fatty acids in the surface sediments of lakes and puddles spanning three climatic zones in the arid/semi-arid Tibet, this paper reveals that the sources of middle, long chain n-fatty acids and a part of short chain ones are related to that of n-alkanes, which can be compared. The correlation between the indices and the paleoclimatic factors is established. It is shown that the content of the normal fatty acid and the CPI indices increase with the increase of the temperature and the precipitation. An R-FA indices for the paleoclimate reconstruction is proposed, which is proportional to the annual average temperature and precipitation.

The directed evolution is a method to obtain proteins with desired traits by mimicking the evolution process at the molecular level in a lab environment. It is an important method for protein design and engineering. Apart from the engineering natural proteins, the directed evolution can be used to construct artificial enzymes by modifying the existing enzymes to have new catalytic activities. This paper reviews the recent studies of the industrial biocatalysis, the nanozyme design and the photocatalysis, as well as the challenges and the problems in the field of the directed evolution and the artificial enzyme.
