The past, present and future developments of geomagnetism and biomagnetism are briefly reviewed. We further suggest that the investigation of geomagnetic paleointensity is a key approach to understand the processes of deep Earth's interior. Moreover, we specifically address recent developments on the research of magnetotactic bacteria and discuss potential future breakthroughs in magnetosome studies and its applications.

This article designed to clarify the importance of vibration observation in colliery safety. Many coal mine Disasters have occurred in recent years. At present gas content monitoring is widespread in our country, but vibration observing methods are rarely used. In fact, major coal mine disasters, such as gas explosions, flooding as well as mine quake, are closely related to coal rock crack phenomena. Of course, the crack will necessarily cause a vibration. Therefore, studying various vibrations is an important and effective way to study and prevent mine disasters, this paper also briefly introduced some researching results as well as some monitoring and researching methods in this aspect.

In this paper, the status of strong motion observation is introduced. The characteristic, function and developing trend of earthquake monitor in dam structure are illuminated. Some fuzzy understanding which exists in strong motion observation on dam in actual project application is pointed out. A new idea of strong motion observation with decision support system on the base of technique of computer and network, which of long-distance transmission and data base administration, is put forward. The system is studied and discussed on the technique outline of function, basic principle, general structure, and content of study and data flow. As an individual viewpoint, the direction of strong motion observation in hydroelectric project is brought forward, as well as the idea of realizing this viewpoint in technique.

On the Seismic Safety Problem of the Taiwan Strait Passage Project

The regional tectonic background and recent GPS observation indicate that the Fujian coastal region of China mainland, the region of the Taiwan Strait and northern Taiwan island all show a generally homogenous horizontal motion with weak deformation. The historical earthquake records more than 800 years and modern instrumental data reveal that there is potential seismic risk in and around the Taiwan Strait region. Studies on the National Seismic Zoning Map of China (2001) demonstrate that the expected seismic risk in the northern part of the Taiwan Strait is lower than that in the middle and southern parts. The suggested northern route of the Taiwan Strait passage project seems to be relatively safe seismically.

The stone relic is a kind of cultural heritage of mankind society. Many stone relics are suffering serious erosion of weathering that has been acting on for a long time. Inspection and assessment on the weathering degrees of stone relics has become an urgent task in the protection of stone relics. The feasibility and approach of the ultrasonic transmission wave and Rayleigh Wave to the inspection on the weathering degrees of stone relics are discussed theoretically and practically. What is also displayed in this paper is the application effect of the two methods in the inspection on the weathering degrees of an ancient stone bridge in Yiwu of Zhejiang Province, a marble fence in the Forbidden City in Beijing, and drum-holding stones beside a gate in the Xihuang Temple.

Research of F/39 Optical System Automatic Focusing Technology Based on Surface Target

Automatic focusing(AF) technology plays an important role in modern astronomical telescopes. Because of the complicated launch and on-orbital working condition, and working with multiband, AF technology is a key technology for large space telescopes. Based on the focusing requirement of F/39 subsystem of Solar Space Telescope (SST), a ground focusing experiment system is set up. With a resolving board as target, we examine focusing criterions based on image edge detection, image variance and entropy. The experiment result shows that the criterion based on Sobel arithmetic operator has narrow peak width and repeat AF accuracy of 0.06 mm. In addition, this criterion is easy to be implemented on hardware because it needs only add & subtract operations.

Key Issues in Designing and Preparing Hypersonic Missile Radomes

Several key technologies of hypersonic missile radomes are summarized and narrated. The basic functions and electric parameters of radomes are introduced; the advantages and disadvantages of present radome materials are estimated, and the future direction for high temperature wave-transparent materials is indicated. The importance of molding techniques is explained. The mathematic relations among the alteration of electrical thickness and that of dielectric constant and geometrical thickness are studied. The feasibility and necessary of adjustment by finish machining are discussed; the stress endured when aviating at a high speed and the designing principle of structure are analyzed; the effects of ablation in studying the mechanism of ablation are detailed and concluded, and the methods of evaluating the general performances of radomes are introduced.

Differential Gene Expression of Uterine Cervix Cancer Cell Induced by Exposing to the Space Environment

We investigated the effect of special space environment on cell growth characteristics and malignant phenotype in the Caski human uterine cervix cancer cell line. Caski cell was carried in "Shenzhou Ⅳ" spacecraft and the returning cell was monocoloned. Strains numbered 44F10 was screened out since its increased cell proliferation and tumorigenesis. Moreover, its cell cycle was induced to progress from G1 to S phase, while strains 48A9 were opposite to 44F10 in cytological events. The difference between ground control groups and space groups was significant (P<0.05). Little is known about the underlying changes in gene expression. The purpose of this study was to investigate these changes. Oligonucleotide microarray containing 2 747 probesets was performed on 4410/ control cell and 48A9/ control cell. Total RNA from both cell types was isolated for reversed transcription cDNA probes; hybridization was performed with double pathway-specific gene expression profiling array membrane. Compared with ground control cell, 16 genes were detected to be differentially expressed in group 44F10. There are 36 genes exhibiting differential expression in group 48A9. Among these genes, a high proportion of genes were associated with apoptotic, cell cycle, cell proliferation and cell signal transduction. As expected, several growth-promoting genes were upregulated in group 44F10, while many genes associated with growth restriction were upregulated in group 48A9. The study provides that differential gene expression of uterine cervix cancer cell induced by exposing to the space environment can lead to alteration of phenotype.

Co-expression of Growth Hormone Releasing Factor and Pituitary Adenylate Cyclase Genes

PACAP coding gene was obtained with chemical synthesis and PCR amplification. The eukaryon expression vectors, pIRES1-PACAP, pIRES1-GRF and pIRES1-PACAP-GRF, were constructed respectively, then the three expression vectors were transfected by Lipofectin to prepared CHO cells. The total RNA was extracted from transfected CHO cells,and the positive result was obtained by RT-PCR, Dot-ELISA and Western blot. Rats were treated with 0.5 ml of transfection supernatant by muscle injection. After 8 hours, IGF-1concerntration in P-G-P group was significantly higher than that of the other groups(P﹤0.05). Three expression plasmids were extracted and poly lactic-co-glycolic acid (PLGA) microspheres encapsulating plasmids were prepared by double emulsion-in hliquid evaporation process. Mice were muscularly injected with plasmid microspheres, bare plasmid and saline. After 20 days, the mean accumulative body weight gain in P-G-P microsperes group was the highest, increased by 64.71%(P<0.01), 28.78%(P<0.01), 32.72%(P<0.01), and 20.78%(P<0.05)to groups injected with saline, P-G microspheres, P-P microspheres and bare plasmids, respectively. Rabbits were treated with three plasmid microspheres(1 mg plasmid/kg of BW)and saline by muscular injection. After 30 days, the mean accumulative body weight gain in plasmid microspheres groups were significantly higher than that of the group injected with saline. Among groups, the accumulative body weight gain in P-G-P group was the highest,increased by 81%(P<0.01), 15%(P<0.05)and 7%(P>0.05) to the saline group, P-G microspheres group and P-P microspheres group, respectively. The concentrations of serum IGF-1 increased in all plasmid microspheres injection groups, which were significantly higher than that of the saline injection group. We draw a conclusion that GRF and PACAP co-expression in animal body do increase IGF-1 concentration and improve animal growth,whose biological activity might be more powerful than GRF and PACAP single gene.

Study on HPLC Fingerprint of Ultramicro Fructus Evodiae

Objective: To determine the HPLC fingerprint of the Ultramicro Fructus Evodiae and to test its potent constituent content. Methods: Chromatographic column: Hypersil BDS C18(4.6 mm×200 mm, 5 μm). Mobile phase: acetonitrile -0.04% octane sulfuric acid sodium salt and 0.05% phosphoric acid in water in a gradient mode. Column temperature: 35℃. Flow rate: 1.0 ml?min-1. Wavelength: 225 nm. Results: The fingerprint of Ultramicro Fructus Evodiae was established and 20 common peaks were found in the fingerprint. Conclusion The methods and data can be used to control the quality of the Ultramicro Fructus Evodiae.

The identification of supply chain risk refers to the process of identifying uncertain factors influencing on SC operation and make it vulnerable. This article analyzes the forming process of supply chain risk, proposes the identifying process of Sc risk including background about Sc, identification of risk factors, scenario development, identification of vulnerability in Sc and risk portfolio, optimization and assessment. Its case study is about company A, which based in the Great Britain. In the case of contagion of disease similar to the SARS epidemic in Asia and Pacific Ocean in 2003, would it how to identify its global supply chain risk. Based on the THERMIX, which is a thermal-hydraulic system analysis software for high temperature gas-cooled reactor,the design scheme of C/S structure-based calculating data management system(TCDMS)is proposed according to the application demand to THERMIX of design and safety analysis. The functional module division, general design of system,and database design are discussed,and many key techniques are analyzed and studied. These analysis and design form the feasible theoretical basis and technical guidance for developing and implementing the TCDMS system. The TCDMS will make the management of the calculating data scientific,engineering and improve the efficiency of design and safety analysis.

The main hardware technique adopted in HD type full-automatic microscope photometer and its effects are introduced. The accuracy for coal reflectance is improved by adopting 16 bits A/D conversion date capture with high speed, enhancing anti-disturbing technique and applying new type photoelectric transducer. The electron eyepiece and video window are introduced, which can substitute observation microscope operation. The problem affecting accuracy due to focus change during the automatic measurement is solved by focusing automatically. It is realized using mouse to complete all measurement operation by redefining the new multiply-key mouse function. Reflectance under different temperature is converted into standard state by automatic temperature calibration. The strict assessment method is designed and carried out.

Hybrid rice technology, an internationally leading invention created on our own in China, is of importance to grain safety of the world. The export and overseas development of Chinese hybrid rice technology is in flourishing tendency with a potentially large market, a remarkable technological and personal advantage and a good fundamental condition, however, is still in the initial stage presently. Seed quarantine barrier, insufficient early input, self-deficiency of hybrid rice, disorder management and export restrictions are the main difficulties and restricting factors in the export of hybrid rice technology. To accelerate the overseas development of Chinese hybrid rice technology, countermeasures should be adopted, such as optimizing strategies, regularizing export, breaking the export barrier, improving seed quality and policy supporting.

The categorization of Structures, Systems and Components (SSC) is one of the cornerstones in the design of the nuclear power plant. The regulation requirements based on the current deterministic categorization are over-conservative in some aspects, and on the contrary, some other requirements are too loose. In order to make the requirements reasonable, the risk-informed categorization of SSCs has been presented. USNRC and some owners affirm that this categorization method is available. Therefore, related requirements, standards and guidelines have been established by USNRC, and on the other hand, some pilot studies have been made by those owners. In this paper, we summarized the background, methods and pilot studies related to this categorization. The relationship and difference between the two methods: exiting deterministic one and the risk-informed one are compared, and the methodology about risk-informed categorization is illuminated.
